Following a destructive hit on Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands, Super Typhoon Soudelor is expected to continue to strengthen further today, with winds now reported at 180 mph, according to the latest public advisory from the NOAA National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Office in Guam. However, Soudelor is expected to begin to weaken tomorrow.

With high confidence in the forecast track, the latest Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) advisory indicates that Soudelor will clip the northern coast of Taiwan at typhoon strength before making final landfall over eastern China.

Soudelor is a very serious tropical cyclone and will deliver intense winds, rains, storm surge, and dangerous surf conditions. Those who may be in harm’s way should continue to stay well-informed with the latest official reports and heed all instructions from local emergency management officials.
