Internship Criteria
All internships are based on the island of Maui in Hawaii. PDC does not support internships outside of Maui.
All internship programs are paid internships. However, we do not offer relocation or housing support.
Technical internships are for summer undergraduate and graduate students. Communications internships are offered year-round.
U.S. Citizenship is not required, however:
Candidates MUST have permission to work in the U.S. for the duration of internship; and
PDC does NOT sponsor visas for international students.
Long-term internships (for graduate students) may be as long as 6 months. Candidates must submit a resume as part of the submission. Areas of interest for internship may also be submitted.

As of 11:00 AM HST, Hurricane Lowell remains a powerful Category 3 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph, located approximately 545 miles south-southwest of Līhuʻe and moving north at approximately 6 mph. PDC wind impacts and rainfall estimates are below.
Lowell is expected to remain a hurricane as it passes just west of the main Hawaiian Islands, with its center forecast to pass just west of Kauaʻi County late Monday into early Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 175 miles from the center, allowing impacts to occur well away from the storm's core. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Kauaʻi County, with hurricane-force wind gusts possible over elevated terrain. Gradual weakening is forecast to begin tonight.
Potentially significant impacts include heavy rainfall and flash flooding, dangerous surf and coastal flooding, and tropical-storm-force winds, particularly across Kauaʻi and Niʻihau Monday through Tuesday morning. Kauaʻi could receive 6–10 inches of rainfall, with isolated totals up to 14 inches, with flash flooding and mudslides possible. Storm surge of 1–3 feet is possible in Kauaʻi County, and life-threatening surf and rip current conditions are expected across many of the Hawaiian Islands during the next several days.
Hurricane Lowell is currently about 600 miles south of Lihue, Kauai and could be near major hurricane strength when it moves close to the western Hawaiian Islands late Monday and Monday night. Continue to monitor DisasterAWARE for updates with each advisory, including potential impacts as this event unfolds.
Regardless of Lowell's exact track and intensity, there is a risk of storm surge, wind, and rainfall for portions of Hawaii, particularly Kauai County, early next week. Heavy rainfall may produce flash flooding and mudslides, especially in areas of steep terrain.

Hurricane Lowell remains a powerful Category 4 hurricane located about 450 miles south-southwest of Hilo and 605 miles south-southeast of Lihue, Hawaii. Forecasts indicate Lowell could be at or near major hurricane strength when it moves near the westernmost main Hawaiian Islands late Monday and Monday night. While it is still too soon to determine the exact track, Lowell could bring storm surge, strong winds, and heavy rainfall to portions of Hawaii early next week.

Lowell is currently a powerful Category 4 hurricane located about 455 miles south-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. Over the next few days, Lowell is expected to continue moving westward. However, a northward turn is possible over the weekend, and there remains considerable uncertainty about the timing and extent of that turn.

Tropical Storm Edouard is expected to strengthen and could approach hurricane strength before reaching the northwest Gulf Coast later today. Tropical Storm conditions are expected along the northwest Gulf Coast, while hurricane conditions are possible from High Island, Texas, to Cameron, Louisiana. Edouard is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, storm surge, and a risk of flash floods and river flooding.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Five is expected to bring tropical-storm conditions to portions of the southwestern Louisiana and Upper Texas coasts tomorrow. Heavy rainfall Tuesday and Wednesday could result in flash flooding from the Upper Texas coast through east-central Texas and into far southwestern Louisiana as the system tracks inland.

PDC's early analysis of the catastrophic flash flood in northern Nepal is now available. We are coordinating with satellite partners to obtain imagery of these extremely remote areas and will provide updates to our analysis once new information becomes available.

Tropical Storm Moke has slightly weakened with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and will pass south of Hawaii today.
Moke will begin to impact the Big Island early Sunday morning with heavy rain. Rain will then spread westward across the remainder of the Hawaiian Islands through Monday. This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides for the windward and southeast Big Island, especially in steep terrain and over areas that were affected recently by Lala.
Although the strongest winds associated with Moke are expected to pass south of the Hawaiian Islands, strong gusty winds are likely, particularly in areas within and downslope of higher terrain. Swells generated by the storm may cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions through early next week for exposed east and south facing shores of the Hawaiian Islands.
