Keeping a close eye on a couple of areas in the Atlantic to monitor:
>>> A disturbance is expected to move westward across the central Atlantic over the next week. The system has a medium (40%) chance of development over the next 7 days and could become a tropical depression near the Lesser Antilles by late next week.
>>> Near The Bahamas, a weak area of low pressure has formed near the central islands. The disturbance has a low chance (10%) of development over the next 7 days and is expected to move slowly near Florida and The Bahamas over the next few days, bringing heavy rainfall through the weekend. Strong upper-level winds are expected to limit any significant development.

Imelda continues to bring tropical storm conditions to the northwestern Bahamas. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue across The Bahamas and eastern Cuba through Tuesday, with the potential for flash and urban flooding. Although Imelda is expected to stay offshore of the southeastern U.S., rainfall could also extend to the coastal Carolinas, leading to localized flooding.
As Imelda moves away from The Bahamas, it is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches Bermuda.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine has developed in the Southwest Atlantic near Cuba and is forecasted to strengthen into Tropical Storm Imelda on Saturday while tracking over the Bahamas. Imelda will bring tropical storm conditions and heavy rainfall to the Central and Northwestern Bahamas this weekend.
Imelda is then expected to be at or near hurricane intensity by early next when it approaches the southeast U.S. coast. Heavy rain, flooding, storm surge and strong winds are possible for coastal Georgia through the Carolinas into the southern Mid-Atlantic states.

In the Atlantic, Gabrielle has intensified into a major hurricane southeast of Bermuda.
Meanwhile, be sure to also keep a close eye on two areas of potential tropical cyclone development to the east of the Caribbean’s Leeward Islands:
>>> A disturbance located about 400 miles east of the Leeward Islands is anticipated to bring gusty winds and rain to parts of the islands starting later tonight. It has a medium (40%) chance of development over the next 7 days and could become a tropical depression later this week in the southwestern Atlantic or near The Bahamas.
>>> Farther east, between the Lesser Antilles and Cabo Verde, another system has a high (70%) chance of development over the next 7 days and could become a tropical depression midweek.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle continues to struggle in the central Atlantic, far from land, but is expected to gradually strengthen and could reach hurricane status by early next week. The latest official forecast continues to keep Gabrielle well northeast of the Leeward Islands and away from the U.S. East Coast. However, interests in Bermuda should continue to keep a close eye on Gabrielle.
Here is the latest update from the animated 'Winds (Surface Velocity & Forecast)' layer in DisasterAWARE, showing Gabrielle’s potential movement over the next several days. Animation times are shown in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).
