Dangerous heat will persist across much of the central and eastern U.S. through the weekend. Heat index values (how hot it really feels) could climb as high as 115 degrees, with record-breaking temperatures and warm nights offering little relief. These conditions pose a significant heat-related health risk, especially for vulnerable populations, individuals without access to adequate cooling, and those engaging in outdoor activities during the holiday weekend.
The Temperature layer in DisasterAWARE—visualized here through July 5 (time shown in UTC)—can be animated to display the latest temperature forecast for the coming days.
Keep in mind: heat index values often feel significantly hotter than the recorded temperatures.
