Tropical Cyclones
Tropical Cyclone 14E (Norbert) is located about 1760 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii
Northeast Pacific:
Tropical Cyclone 14E (Norbert)
NORBERT MOVING WEST-NORTHWESTWARD OVER THE WESTERN EAST PACIFIC
According to the NHC advisory number 12…
Norbert is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h). A turn toward the west is forecast on Sunday, and Norbert should continue in this direction during the next several days. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Only modest strengthening is expected through the weekend. By early next week, a gradual weakening trend is expected to commence, and Norbert should degenerate into a post-tropical remnant low toward the end of next week. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches).

Earlier satellite-derived winds indicate that the surface circulation associated with an area of low pressure located several hundred miles southwest of the southwestern coast of Mexico remains poorly defined. Environmental conditions still appear conducive for development, however, and a tropical depression is expected to form during the next couple of days while it moves generally west-northwestward to westward over the central and western portions of the eastern Pacific basin.

Central North Pacific: There are no Tropical Cyclones
A broad area of low pressure located several hundred miles southeast of Hilo, Hawaii, is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Development of this system is becoming less likely while it drifts generally west-northwestward.

Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and adjacent Seas: There are no Tropical Cyclones
>>> There’s an area of disturbed weather being referred to as Invest 98W, which is located approximately 104 NM northeast of Da Nang, Vietnam
Animated enhanced infrared (eir) depicts a broad area of disorganized deep convection associated with a slowly consolidating low-level circulation center (llcc). The llcc remains broad and elongated, with the western extent of the circulation likely extending over land.
Current analysis of the surrounding environment indicates favorable conditions for further consolidation with low (5-10 kts) vertical wind shear, strong equatorward outflow aloft, warm (28-29 c) sea surface temperatures, and sufficient moisture throughout the air column.
Global deterministic models are in good agreement that 98W will track generally northwestward, skirting the coast of Vietnam, potentially reaching tropical depression criteria during the next 12-24
hours. There remains significant uncertainty as to whether the broad system can organize before it makes landfall in Vietnam and transits inland.
Maximum sustained surface winds are estimated at 23 to 28 knots.
Minimum sea level pressure is estimated to be near 1006 mb.
The potential for the development of a significant tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours is high.
