The Pacific Disaster Center’s (PDC Global) Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Tropical Cyclone Activity Report…for the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and adjacent Seas
Current Tropical Cyclones:
Tropical cyclone 06E Fausto…855 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California
Northeast Pacific:
Tropical cyclone 06E (Fausto)
FAUSTO CONTINUES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD OVER OPEN WATERS
According to the NHC Advisory number 15
Fausto is moving toward the west-northwest near 7 mph. A continued west-northwestward to westward motion, along with an increase in forward speed, is expected over the next several days.
Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph with higher gusts. Some gradual strengthening is forecast during the next day or so, followed by slow weakening on Friday and into the weekend.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 983 mb (29.03 inches).
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
SURF: Swells generated by Fausto are affecting portions of the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula and are spreading northward toward the coast of southern California. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
>>> Eastern and Central East Pacific:
A tropical wave located a few hundred miles off the coast of Central America is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
Gradual development of this system is expected, and a tropical depression is likely to form over the weekend while it moves generally west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph, remaining well offshore of Mexico.
* Formation chance through 48 hours…low…30 percent
* Formation chance through 7 days…high…90 percent
Here’s the link to the National Hurricane Center (NHC)
Central Pacific: There are no active tropical cyclone
>>> Southwest of Hawaii:
A trough of low pressure located well southwest of the Hawaiian Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
Environmental conditions appear conducive for some gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression could form over the weekend or early next week while the system moves slowly westward to west-northwestward.
The system is forecast to move into the western Pacific basin on Sunday.
* Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent
* Formation chance through 7 days…medium…60 percent
Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and adjacent Seas: There are no Tropical Cyclones
Western Pacific
>>> There’s an area of disturbed weather being referred to as Invest 92W, which is located approximately 353 NM northwest of Yap
Animated enhanced multispectral imagery depicts an area of broad cyclonic turning obscured by deep, flaring convection. Furthermore, a 22441z ascat metop-c image depicts a broad area of disorganized cyclonic turning, with wind speeds ranging from 15-25kt in the southwestern quadrant.
Environmental analysis indicates that 92W is in a favorable environment for development, with low (5-10kt) vws, good divergence aloft, and warm (29-30c) sea surface temperatures.
Global models are in good agreement that 92W will continue to track generally west-northwest over the next 24-48hrs as it intensifies.
Maximum sustained surface winds are estimated at 10 to 15 knots.
The potential for the development of a significant tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours remains medium.
