The Pacific Disaster Center’s (PDC Global) Monday, July 20, 2026, Tropical Cyclone Activity Report…for the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and adjacent Seas
Current Tropical Cyclones:
Tropical cyclone 06E Fausto…is located about 745 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California
Northeast Pacific:
Tropical cyclone 06E (Fausto)
FAUSTO EXPECTED TO BECOME A HURRICANE BY TUESDAY
According to the NHC Advisory number 9
Fausto is moving toward the northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h). A decrease in forward speed and a motion toward the northwest is expected to continue for the next day or two. A turn back to the west-northwest is expected on Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Steady to rapid strengthening is expected during the next couple of days, and Fausto is forecast to become a hurricane later today or tonight. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) from the center.
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
SURF: Swells generated by Fausto are expected to reach the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula on Wednesday, and persist for a couple of days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
>>> Eastern and Central East Pacific:
A broad area of low pressure is forecast to develop well south of Mexico by midweek. Environmental conditions appear conducive for development of the system thereafter, and a tropical depression could form while it moves westward to west-northwestward across the eastern and central portions of the eastern Pacific.
* Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent
* Formation chance through 7 days…high…70 percent
Here’s the link to the National Hurricane Center (NHC)
Central Pacific: There are no active tropical cyclone
>>> South of Hawaii:
Showers and thunderstorms associated with a trough of low pressure located well south of the Hawaiian Islands remain disorganized. Environmental conditions appear conducive for some gradual development of this system as it moves generally westward during the next several days.
* Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent
* Formation chance through 7 days…low…20 percent
Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and adjacent Seas: There are no Tropical Cyclones
Western Pacific
>>> There’s an area of disturbed weather being referred to as Invest 92W, which is located approximately 277 NM northwest of Yap
Animated multi-spectral satellite imagery (msi) depicts a broad area of cyclonic rotation with flaring convection. Furthermore, a 210015z ascat metop-b image depicts poorly-defined broad cyclonic circulation, with 15-20 knot winds in the southeastern quadrant.
Environmental analysis indicates that 92W is in a favorable environment for development, with warm (29-30c) sea surface temperatures, and low (5-10kt) vws and good divergence aloft.
Global models are in agreement that 92W will continue to track generally westward.
Maximum sustained surface winds are estimated at 13 to 18 knots.
The potential for the development of a significant tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours is low.
