The Pacific Disaster Center’s (PDC Global) Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Tropical Cyclone Activity Report…for the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and adjacent Seas

Current Tropical Cyclones:

Tropical cyclone 07E (Genevieve)…is located about 530 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California

Tropical cyclone 06E (Fausto)…is located about 265 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii

Tropical cyclone 12W (Dolphin)…is located approximately 425 NM southeast of Wake Island

 

Northeast Pacific:  

Tropical cyclone 07E (Genevieve) 

GENEVIEVE SLOWLY WEAKENING

According to the NHC Advisory number 17

Genevieve is moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h). A west-northwestward motion is expected during the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 125 mph (205 km/h) with higher gusts. Genevieve is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Steady weakening is forecast over the next several days.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km). During the night, the Mexican Navy automated weather station on Clarion Island reported sustained winds of 63 mph (102 km/h) and a wind gust of 86 mph (138 km/h).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 950 mb (28.06 inches).

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND 

SURF: Swells generated by Genevieve are affecting portions of the southwestern coast of Mexico and the Baja California Peninsula. These swells are likely to persist for a few more days, and could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

 

Central north Pacific: 

Tropical cyclone 06E (Fausto) 

FAUSTO TO PASS NORTH OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS TONIGHT THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY …SIGNIFICANT SURF EXPECTED FOR THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS

According to the NHC Advisory number 39

Fausto is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h), and a generally west-northwestward motion is expected to continue for the next several days. On the forecast track, Fausto should pass north of the Hawaiian Islands tonight through late Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds are now near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Weakening is forecast during the next couple of days, although Fausto is expected to remain a tropical storm as it passes north of the Hawaiian Islands.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) mainly to the northeast of the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1004 mb (29.65 inches).

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND 

SURF: Surf generated by Fausto will continue to build westward across Hawaii along exposed east-facing shores through today as Fausto approaches and begins to pass north of the islands. Large surf and strong currents will lead to dangerous conditions along exposed shores.

 

Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and adjacent Seas: 

Western Pacific

Tropical Cyclone 12W (Dolphin) 

According to the JTWC Warning number 7  

Animated enhanced infrared (eir) satellite imagery depicts typhoon (ty) 12W extremely rapidly intensifying, having now developed a pinhole eye measuring 8 NM in diameter and intensified 25 kts in 6 hours. 12W has exploded extraordinarily over the past several hours and continues to exceed expectations. The central dense overcast is uniform and approximately symmetric about the eye, deep convection continues to expand radially, and the system lies directly beneath a point source providing exceptional divergence aloft.

The system remains in a phenomenal environment, characterized by very low (0-5 kts) vertical wind shear (vws), high (29-30 c) sea surface temperatures (sst), ample ocean heat content, and robust dual-channel outflow.

TY 12W (Dolphin) will continue tracking northwestward for the duration of the forecast period as the steering str continues to weaken and reorient to the northeast in response to the deep-layer trough digging into the ridge.

Regarding intensity, 12W is expected to remain in an exceptionally favorable environment for the duration of the forecast period, supporting unbridled intensification for the next several days. Dolphin is currently forecast to peak at 72 hours at 165kts, though it’s possible for the peak intensity to be higher. Following 72 hours, 12W is expected to weaken slightly, seemingly induced by its cold wake while the
surrounding environment remains highly favorable.

As 12W intensifies, the probability of it experiencing an eyewall replacement cycle (erc) increases particularly beyond 48 hours leading to unpredictable intensity fluctuations that may not be reflected in the official forecast.
