The Pacific Disaster Center’s (PDC Global) Friday, May 30, 2025, Tropical Cyclone Activity Report…for the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and adjacent Seas

Current Tropical Cyclones:

Tropical Cyclone 01E (Alvin) is located 265 miles south of the southern tip of Baja California

 

Northeast Pacific Ocean: 

Tropical Cyclone 01E (Alvin)

ALVIN WEAKENING

Alvin is moving toward the north near 10 mph (17 km/h). A slightly slower north-northwestward or northward motion is expected during the next day or two. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Continued weakening is forecast, and Alvin is expected to become a remnant low on Saturday and dissipate entirely on Sunday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km) from the center.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND 

SURF: Swells generated by Alvin will affect portions of the coasts of west-central and southwestern Mexico and the southern Baja California Peninsula through the weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

 

Offshore of Central America and Southern Mexico

>>> An area of low pressure could form by the middle part of next week, offshore of the coasts of Central America and southern Mexico.

Environmental conditions appear favorable for some development of this system thereafter, while it moves generally westward to west-northwestward at around 10-15 mph.

* Formation chance through 7 days…low…30 percent

 

Central Pacific Ocean: There are no Tropical Cyclones

The 2024 central North Pacific hurricane season has ended. As such, the final routine Tropical Cyclone Activity Report for the 2024 season has been issued. Routine issuance of this section of the PDC product will resume on June 1, 2025. During the off-season, Special Tropical Weather Outlooks will be issued as conditions warrant by the CPHC.

 

Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and adjacent Seas:  There are no Tropical Cyclones
