RELEASE NOTES

DisasterAWARE® v 10.0.8 | Release Date: 14 Oct 2025

New Features

Hazard | Brief quick link: The Brief quick link provides access to key map layers related to the selected hazard type, including a summary of exposure—such as population, demographic breakdowns, capital, and critical infrastructure. It also includes a brief event description and a link to share the hazard directly with other users. This quick link combines the functions previously found under the Info and Layers quick links (now replaced). A user can also access the Brief feature through the selected hazard’s tabs in the Hazard panel.

Drawing | Figures tab: Within the Drawing feature’s Figures tab, users can now choose ‘Select All’ and then ‘Move Selected to Trash’ for easier bulk management of figures.

Organization Admin | Layer authorization: Added a ‘Save To’ section to the Add Authorization options to further clarify where that authorization is being applied (e.g. to the User’s account, Sub-Organization, or Organization).

Bug Fixes

Organization Admin | Import URL Layer: Optimized the order of the import URL layer options to provide better clarity where the layer is being imported (e.g. to the User’s account, Sub-Organization, or Organization).

Bookmark | Copy figure: Fixed an issue that prevented the Bookmark copy feature from working correctly with drawing figures included in the bookmark.

Hazards | Filter: Addressed an issue where hazard filtering did not function correctly when certain hazards were included in the default bookmark.

Map | Places Search: Fixed an issue in the Map panel where searches for places located near the antemeridian were returning incorrect location results.

Print | Character limit: Character limits were added to the title, attributes, and description fields to ensure the print product exports and displays correctly.

Smart Alert | Label translation: Resolved an issue preventing severity labels in the Smart Alert Hazards Filters panel from translating when a user changed their preferred language in their User Preferences.

Map | Hazard display: Fixed an issue preventing the PDC Active Hazards layer from displaying on the map when zoomed in beyond a zoom scale of 1:2000.

Deprecated

Hazard | Created by: The ‘Created by’ field has been removed from the PDC Active Hazard details. Source information is now available under the Hazard’s Brief quick link.

Hazard | Info and Layer quick links: The Info and Layers quick links—and their corresponding tabs in the Hazard panel—have been removed. Their content is now consolidated under the new Brief quick link.

Known Issues

Listed below are known issues and available workarounds. Thanks for your patience while we address these items.

Accessibility | Browser Ad Blockers: Supplemental products like situation reports, maps products, and hazard analyses may not open if an ad or pop-up blocker is enabled. Please disable or pause the blocker to view PDF files.

Asset Protection | Organization asset class: Assets added or removed from an organization won’t immediately update in the current session. These changes will appear in subsequent sessions, or after refreshing the browser.

Cameras | Availability indicator: Some cameras may show as available (blue) in, even if their feed is inactive. This is dependent on the provider. Click on a camera to verify its feed is active.

Drawing | Navigation with eraser activated: Map navigation is disabled when the eraser tool is activated. To navigate, pan or zoom the map, or turn off the eraser tool.

Drawing | Polygon: Double-clicking to finish a drawing will zoom in. Instead, hold down the mouse button for 5 seconds to close the shape and complete it.

Drawing | Tools disabled: If a user can not add drawings or encounters issues with the drawing tools, their zoom level may be too close. Zoom out slightly and try again.

Disaster Alert | Domain change logout: When Disaster Alert is configured with an external domain (e.g., DisasterAWARE.pdc.org), logging out of that domain will automatically end the Disaster Alert session as well.

Hazard | Brief quick link: At this time, exposure data in the Brief quick link are available for all hazards except tsunamis, wildfires, manmade hazard types, and manually added hazards. A ‘No data available’ message will display for those sections. To view exposure information for those hazard types, select either the More Information button in the Brief panel or the Event Brief quick link. This feature is actively being expanded to include exposure information for those hazard types.

Layers | Basemap style change: The default basemap style may momentarily load before switching to the selected style when the app starts.

Layers | Extent: Some map layers with many features only appear when zoomed in past a certain level. Zooming out hides these layers to optimize performance and readability, which may limit viewing all features at once.

Temporary workarounds:

  • Decrease the browser’s zoom level to view a wider area while maintaining the map zoom level required to display the data.

  • Zoom in to the level at which the data is visible, then pan the map to explore additional features within that layer.

Layers | Freezing: If the Recent Layers folder is expanded with all layers enabled inside it, navigating other folders and layers may be affected. Close this folder when accessing others to prevent issues.

Layers | Global Forecast Layers: Some global forecast layers (e.g., Wind, Temperature, and Snow Depth) may not display correctly on Windows systems using high display scale settings. This issue has been observed when the display scale is set to 300% or higher.

Temporary workaround: Reduce the computer’s display scale setting to 250% or lower to restore proper layer visibility.

Layers | Imported layers: When importing a Map Service already configured in DisasterAWARE, its layer names may reflect the existing configuration for that Map Service rather than the import settings.

Layers | Metadata: Some layers currently do not display all available metadata.

Layers | RVA “no data”: Data is not rounding or displaying with the percent sign (%) as expected. This is impacting newer data added to the system beginning in 2022.

Layers | RVA “No Data”: The legend in DisasterAWARE may be missing the “No Data” legend entry. This data category is drawn as a grey color in the map viewer. The layer draws as expected and the rest of the information is available in the legend (except the ‘No Data’ entry).

Layers | Well Known Text (WKT): WKT files that fall over the antemeridian will be inverted.

Map | View Orientation: The default map view is oriented with North at the top in a 2D (flat) perspective. Holding Ctrl while panning allows the user to tilt the view and change the map’s orientation, so North may no longer be at the top. To return to the default North-up, 2D view, either 1) use Ctrl + pan to manually reorient the map, or 2) refresh the application to reset the view.

Organizations | Public bookmark layers: If a layer assigned to an organization is publicly available, it will be visible to any user that the bookmark is shared with. If the layer is protected with a source authorization (credentials), then the layer will not load for other users outside of the Organization.

Print Service | Features: Some features may appear blurry in the produced print products.

Print Service | Map Tips: The Print feature does not support the Map Tips at this time.

Print Service | Paper size: A0 and A1 paper sizes (poster sizes) are not currently supported.

Print Service | Full extent: Changing the print preview from Landscape to Portrait and back may cause the selected print area to not reset to full extent. Drag a preview corner to adjust the zoom as needed.

Smart Alert | Email Verification: When changing the Smart Alerts email in User Preferences, the user must verify their new address via the confirmation link sent to it to begin receiving alerts there. If left unverified, alerts will continue to be sent to the previous email registered to their account.

Smart Alert | Assets: Users with their alert area set to ‘Global’ who have also set up Asset Protection alerts will only receive notifications for hazards affecting those assets. To get true Global notifications, users must delete the Asset Providers and stop tracking assets. Otherwise, alerts will be filtered for those Asset locations and any other customized alert areas the user specifies.

Smart Alert | Legend: Duplicate ‘Notification Area’ legends may display when the Organization panel is open.

User Preferences | Language change: When changing languages in DisasterAWARE, it may take a moment for all features to fully translate.

Virtual layers | Selection bar: If users have themes enabled (PDC, Light, or Dark), the Virtual Layer bar at the bottom of the map viewer may not be easily used to determine the active selection. Users may pause the animation and manually choose a selection to determine which is actively displaying in the map viewer.

Web Feature Service (WFS) | Feature count: WFS feature counts are limited to 100 due to bandwidth limitations.

Web Feature Service (WFS) | Layer style: WFS does not support custom styles. Therefore, layers are drawn with default icons.

Web Map Service (WMS) | Asynchronous requests: When a user selects a location, a request is made in parallel to each enabled WMS layer to see if there is a feature at that location. The first layer to respond to the request is the first layer displayed. Serial requests such as this, where the order is defined by the visual order of the layers, may increase response times unnecessarily.

Web Map Service (WMS) | Coordinates: WMS 1.3 specification flips coordinates in a North and then East orientation (minY, minX, maxY, maxX), which differs from a standard orientation (minX, minY, maxX, maxY). DisasterAWARE flips the coordinates for WMS 1.3 and projection 4326 to accommodate this behavior.

Web Map Service (WMS) | Cursor hover: The cursor will not change from the hand symbol to the pointer symbol when WMS features are hovered over in DisasterAWARE. Map tips will also not display on feature hover.

Web Map Service (WMS) | Undeclared virtual layers: Imported layers may appear as independent layers in the Table of Contents (ToC) as well as a child of a parent. Layer inspection may differ depending on the layer(s) enabled when the inspection event occurs.

Web Map Service (WMS) | Symbology: Icons displayed in Map Tips and the Feature Inspector may not match the symbol displayed on the map.

Web Map Service (WMS) | Feature list: The Feature List for WMS services will only show features that the user discovered by clicking on the map. The feature list may not show all features that are on the map as other feature layers do.
