The Pacific Disaster Center’s (PDC Global) Thursday, September 28, 2023, Tropical Cyclone Activity Report…for the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico

CURRENT TROPICAL CYCLONES:

Tropical Cyclone 17L (Philippe)…is located about 530 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands

Tropical Cyclone 18L (Rina)…is located about 1080 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands

 

Atlantic Ocean

Tropical Cyclone 17L (Philippe)

PHILIPPE MOVING VERY SLOWLY

According to the NHC advisory number 23…

Philippe is moving toward the west-southwest near 5 mph (7 km/h). A slow westward or southwestward motion is expected during the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts.
Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days, but
Philippe could dissipate during that time.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) from the center.

Tropical Cyclone 18L (Rina)

RINA MOVING SLOWLY NORTHWESTWARD OVER THE CENTRAL ATLANTIC

According to the NHC advisory number 3…

Rina is moving toward the northwest near 7 mph (11 km/h). A west-northwestward to northwestward motion is expected for the next several days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts.
Slight strengthening is possible overnight and tomorrow, but no
significant change in strength is expected during the next few days.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center.
