Northeast Pacific

Tropical Cyclone 05E (Cristina) According to the NHC, Cristina is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue tonight. A turn toward the west-northwest is forecast to occur by Thursday morning, and that motion is should continue for the next few days. On the forecast track, Cristina will remain well offshore the coast of Mexico. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Cristina is expected to become a hurricane by late Thursday or early Friday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. Here’s what the computer models are showing >>> A nearly stationary broad area of low pressure located about 900 miles southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula is producing a limited amount of shower activity. Environmental conditions are anticipated to become increasingly unfavorable during the next day or so, and development of this system is not expected. * Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent * Formation chance through 5 days…low…near 0 percent >>> An area of low pressure is forecast to form south of the Gulf of Tehuantepec in a couple of days.
