Northeast Pacific

Tropical Cyclone 05E (Christina) According to the NHC, Cristina is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue during the next few days, keeping the cyclone well away from the coast of Mexico. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next 72 hours, and Cristina is forecast to become a hurricane by Wednesday morning. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center. Here’s what the computer models are showing >>> Disorganized showers and thunderstorms located more than 1000 miles southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula are associated with a broad area of low pressure. Some gradual development of this system is still possible over the next several days while it moves little. * Formation chance through 48 hours…low…20 percent * Formation chance through 5 days…low…30 percent >>> An area of low pressure is forecast to form south of the Gulf of Tehuantepec late this week.
