CURRENT TROPICAL CYCLONES
Tropical Cyclone 17W…is located approximately 1075 NM east-southeast of Misawa, Japan
Tropical Cyclone 17W
Sustained 30 knot winds…with gusts to 40 knots (as of Warning Number 4)
According to the JTWC…satellite imagery shows a partially exposed low level circulation center with flaring deep convection displaced to the southwest.
TD 17W is currently tracking northwestward under the influence of the subtropical ridge located to the east-northeast. By 12 hours, the system will intensify slightly to 35 knots and turn northward as it begins to round the ridge.
Afterwards, decreasing sea surface temperatures will begin to gradually weaken the system. By 36 hours, TD 17W will begin to accelerate northeastward as it begins interacting with the westerlies.
Around 48 hours, the system will begin to experience rapidly increasing wind shear, which in addition to further cooling sea surface temperatures, will
begin extra-tropical transition (ett). TD 17W is expected to complete ett no later than 72 hours.
