There are no active tropical cyclones at the time of this writing
There’s a tropical disturbance being referred to as Invest 98S, which is located approximately 421 NM west-southwest of Diego Garcia
Here’s was the computer models are showing
According to the JTWC, satellite imagery shows a well-defined low level circulation center, with flaring convection in the southwest quadrant.
Invest 98S is in a mostly favorable environment with good poleward outflow and warm sea surface temperatures, offset by high 20-30 knot wind shear.
Models have mixed opinions on development, with most showing only slight intensification of 98S, although agree that it is expected to track east-northeastward over the next 24-hours.
Maximum sustained surface winds are estimated at 28-33 knots.
The potential for the development of a significant tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours remains high.
