This is a NASA satellite image showing what’s left of tropical cyclone 17S today
Tropical cyclone 17S is located about 1270 NM south-southeast of Diego Garcia
According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), satellite imagery depicts a longwave trough of low pressure approaching from the west, which has significantly disrupted the tropical cyclone, leaving only a broad line of convection…with almost no organization or any visible low level circulation center.
At the same time, microwave images confirms a significant disorganization of TC 17S over the past six hours.
Images also show that the low level center has deteriorated significantly, leaving only a elongated low level trough of low pressure.
This tropical system is expected to continue its track southeast and dissipate as it gets fully embedded in the trough.
Due to the deteriorating environment, TC 17S has been given its final warning.
Maximum sustained winds as of the JTWC Warning #4 were 35 knots with gusts of 45 knots
