Tropical storm Doksuri (07W) remains active in the Luzon Strait, north of Manila. Environmental conditions remain good for minor additional strengthening, with relatively light wind shear above, and warm sea water temperatures below. The current track path shows the center of this tropical cyclone moving by to the north of Luzan, with Taiwan to the north. Here’s a satellite image of this tropical storm approaching the China coast.
As Doksuri continues in a generally west-northwest direction, it is forecast to reach close to the major city of Hong Kong. Strong gusty winds and potentially heavy flooding rains will be in the area around Hong Kong later Friday into Saturday morning. Tropical storm force winds are expected as this cyclone makes landfall on the China coast, along with large surf conditions. Doksuri will quickly weaken as it moves over mainland China thereafter.
