There are no active tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea…or the Gulf of Mexico
The Atlantic ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico remain tropical cyclone free for the moment, with a tropical disturbance to the southwest of the Cape Verde Islands,…having a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression over the next 48 hours
This area of disturbed weather, circled in orange above, has a medium 30% chance of developing into a tropical depression…which increases to a high 70% over the next five days.
Here’s the NHC experimental Tropical Weather Outlook graphic.
This area is being referred to as Invest 91L, and is located southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. 91L is moving west-northwest at near 15 mph.
The overall picture remains likely for development of this system, as most environmental factors, including warm sea water temperatures below, and generally light wind shear above…are conducive for development this week.
This tropical disturbance has passed by to the south of the Cape Verde Islands, and remains over the open ocean. The current outlook shows Invest 91L moving by to the north of the Lesser Antilles…and probably the Caribbean Islands too. However, whether Bermuda, or the eastern seaboard of the United States will be impacted is still a question at this point.
Here’s a satellite image of this disturbance…along with what the computer models are showing.
