There are no active tropical cyclones in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea…or the Atlantic Ocean

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is showing no active tropical cyclones at this time. There continues to be a tropical disturbance located in the Atlantic Ocean however. This area of disturbed weather is referred to as Invest 98L, and is located several hundred miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands…moving in a west to west-northwest direction at 10 mph.
The NHC is giving this area a medium 50% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next 48 hours…remaining at 50% over the next 5-days. The NHC notes that this area of disturbed weather continues to become more organized. Satellite imagery shows heavy thunderstorms near the center of this area, along with a general spin as well. This system may become a tropical depression over the next day or two, although is expected to stay away from land areas well into the future.

CLOUDINESS AND SHOWERS ASSOCIATED WITH A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IN THE FAR EASTERN ATLANTIC...ABOUT SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS...HAVE BECOME A LITTLE BETTER ORGANIZED THIS MORNING. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A TROPICAL DEPRESSION TO FORM LATER TODAY OR TOMORROW BEFORE UNFAVORABLE UPPER-LEVEL LEVEL WINDS BECOME ESTABLISHED NEAR THE DISTURBANCE. THIS SYSTEM HAS A MEDIUM CHANCE...50 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS...AND A MEDIUM CHANCE...50 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 5 DAYS WHILE IT MOVES WESTWARD TO WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT AROUND 10 MPH.
