Tropical storm Isaac (9L) is located inland over central Louisiana, moving in a north-northwest direction at 9 mph, with sustained winds near 40 mph. The NHC is calling for Isaac to weaken to a tropical depression by this evening, becoming a post-tropical/remnant low pressure system within 48 hours. Despite this weakening trend, as Isaac moves further inland, heavy rainfall and gusty winds will accompany this storm northward. The slow movement of Isaac, as it moves inland into the central United States, is prolonging the threat of extended flooding from heavy rains.

Hurricane Kirk (11L) remains active in the central Atlantic Ocean…which has become the 5th hurricane of the season in the Atlantic. Maximum winds were 75 mph, with gusts to near 92 mph. The NHC is forecasting this storm to slowly strengthen, reaching a peak with 92 mph sustained winds, and gusts to near 115 mph within 48 hours. Fortunately, Kirk will remain over open ocean throughout its life cycle, as it moves northward…and then northeast.
Tropical storm Leslie (12L) is newly formed in the tropical Atlantic. It is located about 1185 miles east of the Windward Islands. Maximum sustained winds were 40 mph. 12L is forecast to increase into a hurricane within 48 hours. Leslie will move in a generally west-northwest direction, keeping it away from the Caribbean Islands. Later in the forecast cycle, it will turn more towards the northwest and north, remaining at hurricane strength. There are no land areas in the projected path of this tropical cyclone, and at this point it looks like it will remain to the east of Bermuda.
