Flooding in Europe and Wildfires in North America!
During the past week flooding continued across Central Europe (Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary and Serbia) (ECHO). Flood events were also observed in Australia (Victoria), China, India, Pakistan, and the United States (Middle Mississippi Valley and North Dakota).
This week we are taking a closer look at an area that could use a little more precipitation!
Wildfires in Colorado
The United States has entered the fire season with the State of Colorado currently experiencing three wildfires burning in areas across the eastern part of the state, near Colorado Springs. So far, an estimated 40-60 homes have been destroyed and around 6,400 people evacuated. Combined, the three fires have burned approximately 4,700 hectares (ECHO). The Royal Gorge fire, located near Canon City, Colorado is currently 20% contained with over 150 firefighters fighting the blaze (Inciweb). The forecast for Colorado Springs, Colorado shows little chance of precipitation over the weekend (WU).
