Floods, flooding, and… more flooding! This week, flooding was observed in many regions across the globe, including Africa, the Americas, Europe, Oceania, and Asia. In Africa, weeks of persistent rains continue to impact both western and eastern Africa, triggering flooding across the region. Flooding was also observed in parts of Central and North America, including Guatemala, Canada, and the United States, especially in areas along the U.S. Gulf Coast which were severely impacted by Tropical Cyclone Isaac last week. Additional flooding events were observed in Australia, China, Myanmar, Philippines, and Pakistan.

Precipitation & Flooding: Guatemala
Heavy rains have impacted several departments in Guatemala, resulting in flooding and landslides in many places. Over 550 people have been reported affected. The departments of Alta Verapaz, El Progreso, and Zacapa are reported to have been affected the greatest. (UN OCHA)
The latest forecast for Guatemala shows areas of continued precipitation and thunderstorms.
Precipitation & Flooding: Nepal
Flooding caused by heavy rains has resulted in the failure of a dam in Bochahi in eastern Nepal. The dam failed early Sunday morning, September 2. Water released from the dam has inundated approximately 500 houses in Odraha, affecting hundreds of families. (ReliefWeb)

- Deaths reported and many residents impacted near Niamey (NOAA/CPC)
