Fires Around the World
A fire in western Norway destroyed at least 23 houses in Laerdalsoyri, Norway, 300 people were evacuated and a reported 90 people received hospital treatment. High winds helped to spread the fire across the area and also impacted emergency communication equipment slowing response time. By the end of the weekend local firefighters had the situation under control. (ECHO 1/20/2014)

Fire in South Australia
A bushfire broke out in South Australia this past week fueled by grass and detritus.? Fire conditions were exacerbated by extreme temperatures(approximately 40 Co /104 Fo).? Around 107 firefighters continue to fight the Bangor fire located in the Southern Flinders Ranges. (NASA) At the time of this report roads are closed and residents have been evacuated. Fires have destroyed an estimated 12 houses and 24 sheds (CFS).
The latest weather forecast for nearby Ceduna, Australia shows zero percent chance of precipitation over the weekend and a high of 102 Fo on Monday (WU).
Fires in Argentina
Wildfires broke out across Neuqu?n province in Argentina affecting the communities of Ruca Choroi, Mall?n, ?orquinco, Pilhue, and Paim?. The fires destroyed approximately 4,500 hectares of land causing the Governor of Neuqu?n to declare a state of emergency and a red alert. (ECHO 1/22/14) Fires continue to burn and officials worry they may be hard to extinguish (ReliefWeb).
Firefighters won?t be receiving any support from mother nature, the latest forecast for Neuqu?n, Argentina shows no chance of precipitation over the weekend (WU).
