Heavy Rainfall Triggers Riverine Flooding Across Indonesia
Ongoing heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several areas of Indonesia, impacting residents of villages in the West and North Sumatra, Aceh, and Riau provinces. As of the most recent update from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management, an estimated 71,000 people have been affected by flood conditions, with more than 32,000 displaced (ReliefWeb/ASEAN).
In West Sumatra, continuous rainfall since last Friday led to the overflowing of the Batang Bangko, Batang Suliti, and Batang Lolo rivers, which triggered flooding in Solok, Agam, and Limapulu Kota (BNBP). As of February 7, reports indicate that more than 2,000 houses have been inundated (ReliefWeb/ASEAN).
Torrential rain also led to the overflowing of four rivers in Riau, triggering widespread flooding across the Rokan IV Koto, Pagaran Tapah, and Rambah districts. Initial reports (as of February 8) indicate that nearly 3,700 residents of Rambah have been affected by flooding (BNBP).
