Strong Quakes Shake Greece, Solomon Islands
On November 17, a 6.5M earthquake struck off the coast of Lefkada, Greece, exposing an estimated 17,000 people to “very strong” shaking (USGS). According to initial media reports, the quake caused damage to several buildings and killed at least one person (Reuters).
On November 18, another strong earthquake struck, this time off the Solomon Islands (USGS). Near the epicenter of the 7.0M quake, residents reported a “long tremor” (Reuters). No reports of damage have yet been received—though media reports indicate that communication with communities in the area posed a challenge that may delay damage reporting.

This Week in Hazards
- High surf advisories are in effect throughout the weekend for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan as Typhoon In-fa nears the Mariana Islands (NWS Guam). As of November 20 (1100 ChST), In-fa is located approximately 360 miles southeast of Guam, with maximum sustained winds at 95 miles per hour (NWS Guam Advisory #12A).
