According to the JTWC warning number 16, sustained winds were 40 knots, with gusts to 50 knots.
Animated multi-spectral satellite imagery (msi) depicts a rapidily weakening system, with the low level circulation center (llcc) quickly elongating and becoming increasingly disorganized as it passes south of Mauritius and La Reunion Island.
The system is traversing a very unfavorable environment characterized by cool sea surface temperatures, high (40-45 knot) northwesterly winds shear and mid-level dry air intrusion.
The system will continue to track southwestward along the northwest side of the Mascarene high over the next few days while quickly dissipating below the basin warning threshold.
It remains possible that the system may re-intensify as a subtropical cyclone in the next couple of days, due to some strong baroclinic forcing as it moves near the entrance region of a strong jet stream max.
