Critical data on infrastructure in Nepal as death toll rises

Aftershocks continue following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the Lanjung District of Nepal. With figures still on the rise, Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) is reporting 2,288 deaths and over 5,800 injured people. Affected districts are in the Western and Central Regions of Nepal, which includes areas with dispersed rural populations and the densely populated cities of Kathmandu and Pokhara. The districts that were the most heavily affected are Dhading, Gorkha, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk, Kavre, Nuwakot, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Ramechhap. Bhaktapur and Ramechhap, according to the UN Office of the Regional Coordinator.

According to a situation report from the UN Office of the Resident Coordinator, The Government of Nepal has officially requested international assistance and search and rescue teams have begun to arrive. In support, a UNDAC Team has established a Reception and Departure Centre at the Kathmandu airport.
