Tropical Cyclone 04B (Nada) is active over the Bay of Bengal…and is located about 805 NM south-southwest of Calcutta, India

Tropical Cyclone 04B (Nada) is active over the Bay of Bengal…heading towards the east coast of southern India
Here’s the latest satellite image of this system…along with what the computer models are showing.
According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), satellite images depict waning convection associated with a partially exposed low level circulation center.
Upper level analysis indicates a marginal environment, due to moderate 20-25 knot easterly wind shear, offsetting the poleward divergence. However, the wind shear remains in-phase with the storms motion, limiting its overall impacts…and allowing the cyclone to maintain its 45 knot intensity.
The dominant steering currents will drive the cyclone westward towards Southern India. Expect environmental conditions to remain marginal, which will sustain the current intensity over the next 12 hours…as the system approaches the east coast of India.
Increasing wind shear and land interaction will weaken the system slightly as it makes landfall just before the 36 hour point. Afterwards, TC 04B will move inland and fully dissipate due to interaction with the physical terrain.
The remnants of TC Nada are expected to emerge over the Arabian Sea, with Global Models showing limited potential for re-intensification.
Maximum sustained winds as of the JTWC Warning #4 were 45 knots with gusts of 55 knots.
