PDC Global Hazards Atlas displaying Tropical Cyclone Positions and Segments, and Estimated Winds (TAOS Model) layers for Post-tropical cyclone Bertha

Post-tropical cyclone Bertha, the Atlantic’s 2nd tropical cyclone of the season, while losing her tropical characteristics…is moving northeastward at a fast paced 50 mph

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), this post-tropical storm is located about 305 miles south of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Satellite images indicate that Bertha has become associated with a cold front, and has acquired extra-tropical characteristics.

The low-level center is now free of deep thunderstorms, and is on the cold air side of a frontal cloud band extending from Nova Scotia…southwestward to the Bahamas. In addition, there’s a strong westerly upper level wind shear over the system.

The current wind strength at the time of this writing (advisory #23) is 50 mph, which will gradually weaken to 40 mph over the next several days.

Open ocean going ships should continue to steer clear of this still dangerous storm.

Here’s a satellite image of this area...along with what the hurricane models are showing.
