Fire in Chile and Flooding in Tanzania

A large wildfire spread across the outskirts of Valparaiso, Chile starting late afternoon on April 12. As of April 16, an estimated 12,500 people have been affected and 2,900 homes were destroyed.  Evacuations remain in effect as the fire continues to burn in the region. (ECDM, ReliefWeb) Firefighters can’t expect much help over the weekend, forecast for Valparaiso shows zero chance of precipitation (WU).

Heavy rainfall across eastern Tanzania caused extensive flooding over the past few days. As of April 15, over 20,000 people have been affected and 19 people were killed.  In the areas of Dar-es-Salaam and Morogoro an estimated 10,000 people are without shelter. (ECDM) Heavy rainfall is expected over the course of the new week and is likely to result in additional flooding (NOAA).

Fire: Chile (Valparaiso)

Flood: Indonesia (West Java), Tanzania (Northeast), United States (Michigan, North Dakota, Northeast, Southeast)

Winter Storm: Canada (Nunavut)
