Below we take a closer look at fire information provided by PDC and highlight an earthquake in Mexico.

To bring you the latest on wildfires around the world, PDC provides up-to-date information on recent global hotspots and historic data on large fires that have occurred since 2000. Use the recent hotspots data to examine areas that have potentially been affected by wildfires over the past week.  Also take a look at the large fires data which allows you to examine areas worldwide that were affected by wildfires from 2000 to 2012, use this data to access information such as date, location, size and intensity of each fire.

PDC also provides US fire data including current wildfires with wildfire perimeters.  Using this data we take a closer look at regional wildfire information for Idaho.

Currently PDC is monitoring 17 wildfires spread throughout Idaho.  The image above shows the Elk fire complex (left) and the Beaver Creek fire complex (right).  These currently active fires were both caused by lightning and have burned a combined 239,352 acres. The Elk fire complex is 95 percent contained and has destroyed 38 residences and 43 outbuildings. Meanwhile the Beaver Creek fire complex caused mandatory evacuations in the Croy Canyon area and is 47 percent contained. (InciWeb)

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck the state of Guerrero in Mexico during the morning hours of August 21. Residents of five different states including Guerrero, Oaxaca, Morelos, Puebla, and Mexico City experienced strong shaking. (ECHO) As a result of the quake, eight people were injured and 438 homes and 65 buildings were damaged in Acapulco.
