PDC Global Hazards Atlas displaying 3 hour precipitation accumulation, with a tropical disturbance in the South Pacific...that has a medium chance of developing within 24 hours
The area circled in orange above, continues to have a medium chance of developing, as stated by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC). This area is located approximately 405 NM east of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Satellite imagery shows that the organization of the low level circulation has lost some integrity over the past 24 hours, with only sporadic deep convective activity.
Nonetheless, sea surface temperatures remain favorable for development, ranging between 29-30 degrees Celsius (85-86F). Winds in the area are blowing between 20-25 knots (23-28 mph). Based on the overall favorably inclined environment, but poor organization of the low level circulation center, the potential for development of a significant tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours…remains medium.
