PDC Global Hazards Atlas displaying 3 hour precipitation accumulation, dissipating tropical cyclone 21S (Imelda), with JTWC positions, segments and winds…over the South Indian Ocean
Tropical cyclone 21S (Imelda) is now dissipating in the South Indian Ocean…located approximately 410 NM east of La Reunion island. This tropical cyclone will continue weakening further through the next 12 hours…with complete dissipation expected thereafter. It has tracked southeast at a slow 05 knots over the past six hours. Satellite imagery shows a fully exposed low level circulation center, with no deep convection remaining active over the past 12 hours.
The intensity of TC 21S dropped in half over the past 24 hours, now showing only 35 knot winds, with gusts to near 45 knots. Upper level analysis indicates that Imelda is encountering stronger vertical wind shear aloft, greater than 30 knots (35 mph). These stronger winds over the storm, in addition to only marginal sea surface temperatures…has led to this rapid weakening. Thus, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has issued its final warning on this system.
Otherwise, there are no other suspect areas of tropical cyclone formation at the time of this writing.
