There are no active tropical cyclones in the Pacific or Indian Oceans…or adjacent seas

PDC Global Hazards Atlas displaying 3 hour precipitation accumulation...with two areas of disturbed weather (circled in yellow) that have a low chance of developing into tropical cyclones within 24 hours...around Australia
There are two areas of disturbed weather showing up in the tropics today, both of which are located near Australia…are circled in yellow above. The first, the one on the right, is located approximately 55 NM northeast of Cairns, Australia. Satellite imagery indicates flaring thunderstorms, and weak convective banding…associated with a small but well defined low level circulation center. Cairns radar imagery has been showing shallow banding features, wrapping loosely into this circulation center.
Multiple surface observations in the area indicate sustained winds of 20-25 knots (23-29 mph), with a sea level pressure near 1004 millibars (~29.70″ of mercury). The main problem confronting this tropical disturbance at the moment, is the moderate to strong vertical wind shear, which is running 20-30 knots (23-35 mph) at the moment. As a result, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) is giving this area a low chance of developing into a significant tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
The second tropical disturbance, the one to the left on the picture above, is what’s left of retired TC 18S. This area is located approximately 290 NM east-southeast of Cocos Island, Australia. Satellite imagery shows isolated deep convection
flaring over the periphery of this broad, low level circulation center. There are weak, shallow bands of clouds wrapping into this broad, well defined center. At the surface, winds are blowing between 20-25 knots…while above, there is moderate to strong 20-30 knot vertical wind shear. Thus, the potential for development remains low according to the JTWC.
