Tropical cyclone 09S (Emang), is located about 515 NM southeast of Diego Garcia. Emang has tracked westward at a slow paced 03 knots over the past six hours. Satellite imagery continues to show areas of flaring deep convection near the low level circulation center. Although, overall improvements in the structure of Emang have been slow to develop. The strength of Emang has remained steady during the last 12 hours, and is forecast to remain at 35 knots through the next 12 hours…before slowly intensifying.
TC 09S remains in a weak steering current, thus the ongoing slow drift to the west. Emang will intensify slowly to a peak intensity of 45 knots through the next 48 hours, as environmental conditions gradually improve a bit through this forecast period. Thereafter, and especially by 72 hours, vertical wind shear will increase, putting a damper on further intensity. There are no land areas or islands along the projected path of this tropical cyclone, as it remains over the open waters of the South Indian Ocean…well to the south of the small island of Diego Garcia, and east-northeast of La Reunion island.
