Tropical cyclone 27W (Wukong) is active over the Philippine Islands…located approximately 170 NM south of Manila (Strengthening tropical storm…sustained winds of 35 knots, with gusts to near 45 knots)

PDC Global Hazards Atlas displaying 3 hour precipitation accumulation, tropical cyclone 27W, with JTWC positions, segments, error cones, winds...over the central Philippine Islands
Tropical cyclone Wukong is moving across the central Philippine Islands now, generally in a westward direction…at near 11 knots. The interaction between this tropical storm, and the physical terrain features of the islands, has caused decreased intensity. Nonetheless, flood and landslide warnings were issued as Wukong moved through the area. Heavy to intense rainfall lashed Samar Island, where landfall occurred on Christmas Day.
There will be a short window of opportunity for Wukong to strengthen a bit, as it moves over the relatively warm waters of the South China Sea. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) is forecasting this system to attain 40 knot sustained winds over the next 24 hours or so. Wukong will then take a turn to the southwest, remaining offshore of the southeast coast of South Vietnam…and likely dissipating over the ocean by December 29th or 30th.
