PDC Global Hazards Atlas displaying 3 hour precipitation accumulation, an area circled in yellow...with a low chance of developing into a significant tropical cyclone during the next 24 hours

A new area of disturbed weather is forming over the ocean to the northeast of Papua New Guinea…in the general area of the Federated States of Micronesia. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) is giving the location as approximately 140 NM southwest of Pohnpei. Animated satellite imagery shows a weak low-level circulation center, with an associated area of deep convection (thunderstorms).

There was an elongated circulation, although with just 10-15 knot winds near the center of this area. Upper-level 15-20 knot shearing winds are causing only a marginal environment for strengthening at the surface. Thus, the low chance of development of a significant tropical cyclone during the next 24 hours. Here’s a satellite image of this area.
