PDC Global Hazards Atlas displaying 3 hour precipitation accumulation, tropical cyclone Evan (04P), with JTWC positions, segments, error cones, winds...south of Fiji in the Southwest Pacific Ocean
Tropical cyclone Evan (04P) continues moving generally southward away from the Fijian islands, over the open ocean. As expected, Evan is moving over cooler sea surface temperatures, and in the process, bringing it back to a quickly weakening tropical storm now. JTWC shows that the sustained winds are only 45 knots at the time of this writing, with 30 knot winds forecast within 24 hours.
Evan brought a trail of destruction to the Samoa area, as well as the islands around Fiji…as it moved across those fragile nations. This now significantly reduced storm, will dissipate over the next 24-36 hours, causing no additional harm to land or island areas. It’s too far north of New Zealand to be of any influence, and will go into the history books by later Thursday. It won’t soon be forgotten however, for those small islands that got lashed by Evan’s frightening power!
