Tropical cyclone Bopha (26W)is active in the western Pacific Ocean…located approximately 605 NM east-southeast of Palau (strengthening typhoon…65 knot sustained winds)

PDC Global Hazards Atlas displaying typhoon Bopha (26W), with JTWC positions, segments, winds and error cones...in the western Pacific

Typhoon Bopha (26W) is now tracking west-northwest away from the equator, and continues strengthening. Looking at the latest JTWC track, 26W will move south of Yap, and according to the latest forecast…then right over Palau. The most current outlook shows 100+ knot sustained winds, with gusts to near 125+ knots as it moves over that small island later on the 2nd of December. Severe weather conditions will accompany this typhoon, which will require great caution by the small population on Palau…if the current track holds true.

Thereafter, this typhoon will move over the very warm waters of the Philippine Sea, which will increase its danger to the central Philippine Islands. Heavy pounding surf along the eastern coasts of the Philippines, along with very strong and gusty winds, and intense flooding rainfall can be expected over parts of that country…during the 4-6th of December. Typhoon Bopha is forecast to begin weakening just before arriving over the Philippine Islands, and will weaken further due to interaction with the physical terrain features of those islands.
