Tropical cyclone Bopha (26W)…is active in the western Pacific Ocean…located approximately 815 NM east-southeast of Palau (strengthening tropical storm…50 knot sustained winds)

Tropical storm Bopha (26W) is tracking west-southwest now, and is forecast to become a typhoon by the JTWC within 12 hours. This relatively small storm remains quite close to the equator (4N), which has limited its strengthening over the last few days. The track will soon take a more west-northwest path, which should allow it to finally intensify.
26W will move south of Yap, and according to the latest forecast…then right over Palau. The most current forecast shows 95 knot sustained winds, with gusts to near 115 knots as it moves over that small island around the 2nd of December. Severe weather conditions will accompany this typhoon, which would require great caution…if the current track continues in that direction.
Thereafter, this typhoon will move over the warm waters of the Philippine Sea, which will increase its danger to land areas further west, especially the central Philippine Islands. Heavy pounding surf along the eastern coasts of the Philippines, along with very strong and gusty winds, and intense flooding rainfall can be expected over parts of that country…by around the 4th of December.
