Tropical cyclone Bopha (26W)…is active in the western Pacific Ocean…located approximately 270 NM southeast of Chuuk, FSM (strengthening tropical storm…45 knot sustained winds)

Tropical storm Bopha (26W) continues to track westward, becoming a typhoon within 36 hours. The current path will take 26W south of Chuuk, and well south of Guam over the next couple of days, with further gradual strengthening. Bopha will then move somewhat south of Yap, getting into the vicinity of Palau, with the JTWC forecast showing 100 knot sustained winds then…in approximately 120 hours. Thereafter, this strong typhoon will move over the the warm waters of the Philippine Seas, which will increase its danger to land areas further west.
