Tropical storm Nadine (14L) remains active in the middle Atlantic Ocean, although will be gradually weakening from here on out.  The NHC shows this long lasting tropical system moving over a cooler sea surface soon, and encountering stronger upper level shearing winds too. These influences will finally put an end to Nadine…at least her tropical characteristics. Nonetheless, the northwest Azores have storm warning flags up now, for its expected arrival tonight into Thursday. The NHC has Nadine finally becoming a post-tropical cyclone within 36 hours.

Nadine has turned out to be the 5th longest lasting tropical cyclone in the Atlantic Ocean…of all time! According to historical records, which go back to 1851, only five previous Atlantic tropical cyclones have lasted longer than 21 days, which is what Nadine will reach by 2pm EST.

Tropical depression 15L is now active in the Atlantic as well…the first depression to form in the Atlantic since back on September 11th. This storm, or what will be tropical storm Oscar later today, will have a short life, certainly compared to her sister to the north (Nadine). It will run into trouble, with wind shear above, and cooler sea surface temperatures below over the next few days. It will likely dissipate by the upcoming weekend…remaining over the open ocean throughout its life cycle.
