Tropical cyclone Maliksi (20W) will gradually strengthen over the western Pacific. The JTWC forecast takes Maliksi over the ocean just to the west of Iwo To as a strengthening tropical storm. 20W is forecast to become a typhoon well to the south of Tokyo, Japan briefly. This tropical cyclone weakens rather quickly back to a tropical storm, and remains over the open ocean far east of the Japanese Islands.

Tropical cyclone 21W is active in the South China Sea, currently at tropical depression status. It is forecast by the JTWC to become a tropic storm over the next 24 hours. 21W is moving more or less northward, although will soon veer to the west and west-southwest. This path will take it south of Hainan Island…towards the Vietnamese coast later this week.
