Flooding Persists!
Every week we hope to see less flooding worldwide. However, flooding continues to impact countries around the world. This week, flooding was observed in Africa, Oceania, the United Kingdom, North America, and Asia. In Africa, flooding was reported in Nigeria and in South Sudan, as well as Sudan, where flooding is predicted to continue (NOAA/CPC). Flooding has also been forecast for northern Somalia and eastern Ethiopia over the course of next week (NOAA/CPC). Additionaly, flooding was observed in Oceania (Australia), the United Kingdom (England and Scotland), and in North America (Alaska).
In Asia, flooding has continued to impact regions within Pakistan and India. As a result of over a month of heavy and persistent monsoon rains, flooding in Pakistan has affected approximately 4.5 million people and 13,465 villages, and has damaged around 275,270 houses so far (UNOCHA). In India, flooding was reported in Bihar, Assam, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal (DMD). Below, we will take a closer look at recent flooding events in northeastern India!
