Wildfire Statistics in the United States

Wildfires are a devastating problem around the country. For a list of fire statistics, visit the Wildland Fire Statistics (National Interagency Fire Center) website.

Wildfires in Hawaii

In Hawaii, wildfires occur on all the major islands: Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui, and the Big Island. For instance in Maui County, which encompasses the island of Maui, Lanai, Molokai, and Kaho'olawe, between 1972-1999 there were 1,291 brush fires that burned 64,248 acres and impacted 43 structures.
Since 1975, DOFAW has collected statistical data on fires as a key part of management operations because it helps identify various factors that cause problem fire areas. The data is used to justify existing and proposed fire protection programs. For more information on Hawaii's wildfire statistics, visit the Fire Management Program website.
