A High Wind Watch is issued when the risk of hazardous wind has increased significantly, but its occurrence, location and/or timing is still uncertain.
A High Wind Advisory is issued when winds are greater than 30 mph but less than 40 mph. If caution is not exercised, conditions could lead to situations that may threaten life and/or property.
A High Wind Warning is issued when one of the following conditions poses a threat to life or property:
- Sustained winds of 40 mph or greater, lasting for 1 hour or longer (45 mph above a thousand feet), or
- Winds of 60 mph or greater, existing for any duration of time.
