The mission of Pacific Disaster Center is to provide applied information research and analysis support for the development of more effective policies, institutions, programs and information products for the disaster management and humanitarian assistance communities of the Asia Pacific region and beyond. To accomplish this mission, a small number of dedicated specialists work at PDC on Maui, with some support staff members posted elsewhere.

PDC's activities focus on the innovative use of information, technology and applied research to promote proactive, rather than reactive planning, and to introduce new and appropriately scaled information resources, tools, and analyses to disaster managers and decision makers.

Job positions at Pacific Disaster Center include GIS analyst, software engineer, network engineer, system administrator, modeling and simulation analyst, imagery analyst, webmaster, technical editor, hazard mitigation specialist, database administrator, project manager and weather analyst, plus various others as major projects demand.

PDC participates in several internship programs. Select post-doctoral researchers work at and under the auspices of Pacific Disaster Center.
