Michael and Andrea Chatman
Disaster Management Applications Analyst Andrea Chatman and her brother Modeling Analyst Michael Chatman were recognized with University of Richmond Disaster Service Medals for their contributions to the response to the January 2010 Haiti Earthquake.

On Wednesday, May 5, in a ceremony on the campus of the University of Richmond, Disaster Service Medals were awarded to PDC’s Disaster Management Applications Analyst Andrea Chatman and Modeling Analyst Michael Chatman in recognition of their contributions to the response and recovery efforts associated with the January 12, 2010, Haiti Earthquake.

Disaster Service Medals are awarded by the university’s Emergency Services Management and Disaster Science Department to students and faculty members who responded to a state and/or federally declared disaster during the academic year. Andrea completed all the requirements for her Master of Disaster Science degree this year, and the diploma was presented to her on May 8. Michael is currently enrolled in the Master of Disaster Science program, expecting to complete his studies in 2012.

"We at PDC are very proud of Michael Chatman and Andrea Chatman," said Chief Scientist Stanley Goosby. "They were, of course, 'just doing their jobs' at the Center, as they do every day. The medals represent the special achievement of maintaining and advancing in a career in disaster management—where, sometimes, immediate responses to real-world hazards are demanded—while also pursuing additional education in the field. Both of these hard-working analysts are to be congratulated."
