A powerful 6.3 Magnitude earthquake that struck the island of Java in Indonesia has claimed in excess of 5,700 lives according to revised figures by Indonesian officials. Approximately 36,000 are injured with as many as 343,000 homeless, according to recent reporting by the Center of Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance. Relief operations by domestic, national, and international agencies are providing ongoing assistance to earthquake survivors.
